Post-Jam Update

We're excited to announce the first post-jam release of Outage! We're still discussing where to take the project next (and if you have any preference on that, then feel free to share!), but for now, here is the (vastly improved) version of the game! We've fixed all of the reported bugs as well as introducing a number of new features to make the game more approachable.

But first, the jam results. Out of 1,888 entries, we are proud to say that Outage came in 68th place - which is better than we had imagined! We're also super proud to say we came in 6th place out of 1,888 for Game Design - which is a monumental achievement! Thank you to all those who played Outage and believed in the project :D

We've implemented a bunch of new features based on your suggestions - and have showcased them below:

Mac Support

One of the most important new features for Outage is the ability to play it on a Mac. We had hoped to have this ready for the jam itself but, time constraints and not-owning-a-Mac-to-test-the-game-on meant it had to wait - but no longer!

[Please note that the Mac build has not been tested as extensively as its Windows counterpart]

Updated Environment

Exactly what it says on the tin - we've added some new bits and pieces to the environment to fill it out more!

Going For Gold

Looking for an extra challenge? Look no further than the new 'Going For Gold' system introduced in Outage 1.1.0! Try to beat the level in under a given number of moves to turn the lights golden for the added satisfaction of achieving a perfect score.

You can see which levels you've achieved gold in through the level select menu. Can you get the perfect score in all 20?

Hint System

One popular suggestion from the jam release of Outage was the introduction of a hint system, and so it was important that we implemented one into the game!

After spending a certain number of moves on a level, a hint (activated by holding down 'H') becomes available to use. This reveals one of the steps that make up the level's solution. Whilst it doesn't give the game away, we feel it will be of great assistance to those who are really stuck!

Undo System

Another frequently-requested feature to add into Outage was an 'undo move' system. Now, you can press 'Z' to undo your last move!

[Note that the undo system only allows the undoing of the very last move made. It is designed for solving your mistakes, not backtracking!]

We've gone through and fixed all of the known bugs in Outage.

  • Leaving a level and loading a new one too quickly no longer causes the new level to be incorrectly generated.
  • The 'gliding box' glitch, in which boxes heading towards deflector tiles divert at diagonals to their final position has been resolved.

As you can see, we've added a ton of new stuff to this version of Outage. Feel free to give it a go - we'd be grateful for your feedback! :D
